WHY ITALY?• Less than 1% of the nearly 60 million inhabitants of Italy are Protestants. Mission groups now consider such nations as “unreached people groups.” • There is a mosque in Rome and Islam is the second leading religion in Italy. • The Reformation never penetrated Italy due to the wealthiest nation in the world, the Vatican, which gave birth to and continues to propagate humanism and evolutionism in answer to the Reformation. • Only 6% of the Italian population claim to be devout Catholic, while 15% meet the "bare minimum requirement" of attending church once a year (Easter or Christmas). • Approximately 80% of the Italians are dissatisfied with Catholicism and for this reason, one writer described Italy as "the land of no religion." • These 80% have turned, are turning, and will continue to turn to Atheism, New Age, Eastern Religions, Satanic cults, Mormonism, and Jehovah Witnesses since Biblical Christianity is not being offered as the only Truth in this spiritual void. • Roman Catholicism is trying to halt this “mass exodus” by wearing the cloak of ecumenicalism and by inviting all religions to unite in universal renewal and brotherhood. Peeking underneath the cloak, however, one still finds the medieval clothes of human authority and tradition. So, why not Italy?
